How To Create a New User and Grant Permissions in MySQL | DigitalOcean

In Part 1 of the MySQL Tutorial,
we did all of the editing in MySQL as the root user, with full access
to all of the databases. However, in the cases where more restrictions
may be required, there are ways to create users with custom permissions.

Let’s start by making a new user within the MySQL shell:

CREATE USER 'newuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
Sadly, at this point newuser has no permissions to do anything with
the databases. In fact, if newuser even tries to login (with the
password, password), they will not be able to reach the MySQL shell.

Therefore, the first thing to do is to provide the user with access to the information they will need.

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON * . * TO 'newuser'@'localhost';
The asterisks in this command refer to the database and table
(respectively) that they can access—this specific command allows to the
user to read, edit, execute and perform all tasks across all the
databases and tables.

Once you have finalized the permissions that you want to set up for your new users, always be sure to reload all the privileges.

Writing shell scripts - Lesson 1: Writing your first script and getting it to work

Writing shell scripts - Lesson 1: Writing your first script and getting it to work

To successfully write a shell script, you have
to do three things:

  1. Write a script
  2. Give the shell permission to execute it
  3. Put it somewhere the shell can find it

Writing A Script

A shell script is a file that contains ASCII
text. To create a shell script, you use a text
editor
. A text editor is a program, like a word
processor, that reads and writes ASCII text files.
There are many, many text editors available for
your Linux system, both for the command line
environment and the GUI environment. Here is a list
of some common ones:

Name

Description

Interface

vi, vim

The granddaddy of Unix text editors, vi, is infamous for its
difficult, non-intuitive command structure.
On the bright side, vi
is powerful, lightweight, and fast. Learning
vi is a Unix rite of
passage, since it is universally available on
Unix-like systems. On most Linux
distributions, an enhanced version of the traditional
vi
editor called vim is used.

command line

Emacs

The true giant in the world of text
editors is Emacs by Richard
Stallman
. Emacs
contains (or can be made to contain) every
feature ever conceived for a text editor. It
should be noted that vi
and Emacs fans fight
bitter religious wars over which is
better.

command line

nano

nano is a free clone of the text
editor supplied with the pine
email program. nano is
very easy to use but is very short on
features. I recommend nano for first-time users who
need a command line editor.

command line

gedit

gedit is the editor
supplied with the Gnome desktop
environment.

graphical

kwrite

kwrite is the
"advanced editor" supplied with KDE. It has
syntax highlighting, a helpful feature for
programmers and script writers.

graphical

Now, fire up your text editor and type in your
first script as follows:

#!/bin/bash
# My first script

echo "Hello World!"

The clever among you will have figured out how
to copy and paste the text into your text editor
;-)

If you have ever opened a book on programming,
you would immediately recognize this as the
traditional "Hello World" program. Save your file
with some descriptive name. How about
hello_world?

The first line of the script is important. This
is a special clue, called a shebang, given to the shell indicating
what program is used to interpret the script. In
this case, it is /bin/bash. Other scripting
languages such as Perl, awk, tcl, Tk, and
python also use this mechanism.

The second line is a comment. Everything
that appears after a "#" symbol is ignored by bash. As your scripts become
bigger and more complicated, comments become vital.
They are used by programmers to explain what is
going on so that others can figure it out. The last
line is the echo command. This
command simply prints its arguments on the
display.

Setting Permissions

The next thing we have to do is give the shell
permission to execute your script. This is done
with the chmod command as
follows:

[me@linuxbox me]$ chmod 755 hello_world

The "755" will give you read, write, and execute
permission. Everybody else will get only read and
execute permission. If you want your script to be
private (i.e., only you can read and execute), use
"700" instead.

Putting It In Your Path

At this point, your script will run. Try
this:

[me@linuxbox me]$ ./hello_world

You should see "Hello World!" displayed. If you
do not, see what directory you really saved your
script in, go there and try again.

Before we go any further, I have to stop and
talk a while about paths. When you type in the name
of a command, the system does not search the entire
computer to find where the program is located. That
would take a long time. You have noticed that you
don't usually have to specify a complete path name
to the program you want to run, the shell just
seems to know.

Well, you are right. The shell does know. Here's
how: the shell maintains a list of directories
where executable files (programs) are kept, and only
searches the directories in that list. If it does
not find the program after searching each directory
in the list, it will issue the famous command
not found
error message.

This list of directories is called your
path. You can view the list of directories
with the following command:

[me@linuxbox me]$ echo $PATH

This will return a colon separated list of
directories that will be searched if a specific
path name is not given when a command is attempted.
In our first attempt to execute your new script, we
specified a pathname ("./") to the file.

You can add directories to your path with the
following command, where directory is the
name of the directory you want to add:

[me@linuxbox me]$ export
PATH=$PATH:directory

A better way would be to edit your
.bash_profile or .profile file (depending on your distribution)
to include the above
command. That way, it would be done automatically
every time you log in.

Most Linux distributions encourage a
practice in which each user has a specific
directory for the programs he/she personally uses.
This directory is called bin and is a
subdirectory of your home directory. If you do not
already have one, create it with the following
command:

[me@linuxbox me]$ mkdir bin

Move your script into your new bin
directory and you're all set. Now you just have to
type:

[me@linuxbox me]$ hello_world

and your script will run. On some distributions, most notably
Ubuntu, you will need to open a new terminal session before your
newly created bin directory will be recognised.

How to Solve WordPress Could Not Create Directory - WordPress Now WordPress Now

1. Web Server Ownership

The first level is actually to make sure that your web server has ownership over the directories:

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data your-wordpress-directory

2. Directory Permissions

The second level is also required – you must make sure that the directory permissions are properly set:

sudo find /var/www/wordpress/ -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;

sudo find /var/www/wordpress/ -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;

I’ve found that most solutions posted on the web show part two but skip the first part.

How to raise a Million dollars? | Fund-raising using LFT's Fair Trade principles

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. Aristotle

NOTE: LFT offers a cooperation system for you to raise capital. This is not a charity, no handouts and no free cash. We all work for it.

The LFT's fair trade principles that we use are:
- Fair go: sharing opportunities openly.
- Fair play: give the opportunity to grow -if you can.
- Fair share: we share fairly.

How you can fund-raise $50,000
  1. Remove the fear to cash: shift your perspective. See money not as the primary goal but as a byproduct of doing the right things.
  2. Make a goal and track progress: $50k is only 100 contributions of $500
  3. Use the fair Go principle: Learn to negotiate and move in steps
  4. Use the fair Play principle: You can make a 'deal' with LFT
  5. Fair Share principle: The first $50k are part of that "deal"
  6. Get low risk support: LFT's members will place $50,000 on software value
  7. Create a deal: The software is sold online or requested a "donation"
  8. Use the fair Share principle: Capital is raised and your share is given to you.
  9. Be fair: Percentages are created accordingly to the LFT's fair trade principles

Alternative program:
  1. Give donors (buyers) a wining price.
  2. Connect with a celebrity.
  3. Present your idea to the media.

The million dollars goal: If the first $50k are achieved, we will pledge more software on the table to help you arrive to the $1,000,000.

Do You Have to Pay Income Taxes on Money Received From a Fundraiser? - Budgeting Money

Income Taxes

The IRS
doesn't tax beneficiaries on the money received through fundraisers. If
you are raising the funds for someone else, you'll want to keep the
money in a separate bank account to avoid any discrepancies with the
IRS. If you do not keep the funds separate, the IRS may question where
the money in your account came from, especially if you are audited. As a
precaution, maintain records of all fundraising deposits to show the
source of the funds. If you receive compensation in any way for raising
the funds, you must report it to the IRS as earned income. You may
deduct any legitimate expenses associated with the fundraising.

Finkel report: Major review of Australia's energy sector explained - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

While Donald Trump makes headlines over his climate
change policy (or lack thereof), Australia is squirrelling away trying
to reduce its impact on the globe.

We need to slash our greenhouse
gas emissions — and right now making electricity is our biggest single
source of pollution (35 per cent).

So you might have heard about this big government report called the Finkel review.

Basically, it is chief scientist Alan Finkel's plan for the future of the National Electricity Market.

That
market is how most states — Queensland, New South Wales (including the
Australian Capital Territory), Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania —
get their power.

Right now, 87 per cent of the electricity going
into that market comes from fossil fuels — a percentage that scientists
say needs to fall a lot if the planet is to avoid dangerous climate
change.

When to use virtual reality

"Winston Churchill: When will the lesson be learned! You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth!" from film Darkest Hour.

That'll be enought to understand when you have a lower position while negotiating with someone. Having said that, I would consider the power of virtualisation, entropy and biocybernetics that can overhaul the entire reality perspective and manage the blackholes, factors, variables and constants.

By developing more digital properties running the above new tools you can face the tigers that must be take in considderation to fix or improve something.

No money no honey? | Corection: "No target no honey.."

"Setting up a road without having a target equals to drive directly to a brick wall. There's only one thing in life for certain: you've got  life, death and taxes you aslso got a story of a target; and targets. If you don't set up a target you wont end up in the right destination and you will probably go completely the wrong way."
Oliver Yates (former CEO for Clean Energy Finance Corp - CEFC)

"So there it is: People don't really want to grow up, people don't really want to change, people don't really want to be happy. As someone so wisely said to me, "Don't try to make them happy, you'll only get in trouble. Don't try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it irritates the pig.""
Tony DeMello

"Most people tell you they want to get out of kindergarten, but don’t believe them.
Don’t believe them! All they want you to do is to mend their broken toys. “Give me back my wife. Give me back my job. Give me back my money. Give me back my reputation, my success.” This is what they want; they want their toys replaced. That’s all. Even the best psychologist will tell you that, that people don’t really want to be cured. What they want is relief; a cure is painful."
TonyDeMello (Awareness)

In business life: "no sales means no business". YOU have to constantly set up sales targets all the time. The old story applies here, "sale, sale, sale". With LFT-Australia we will finance your sales plan to promote using:
  1. Biomarketing
  2. Neural networking
  3. Virtual reality simulations
  4. Online and Offline events.
Don't push your product/service, don't "try to make pigs sing", and most importantly do not promise to "fix broken toys".

Nobel in Economics Is Awarded to Richard Thaler - The New York Times

WASHINGTON
— Richard H. Thaler, whose work has persuaded many economists to pay
more attention to human behavior, and many governments to pay more
attention to economics, was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic
Sciences on Monday.

Professor
Thaler is the rare economist to win a measure of fame before winning
the prize. He is an author of a best-selling book, “Nudge,” about
helping people to make better decisions. He also appeared in the 2015
film “The Big Short,” delivering what is surely one of the most widely
viewed tutorials in the history of economics, on the causes of the 2008
financial crisis.

The
Nobel committee, announcing the award in Stockholm, said that it was
honoring Professor Thaler for his pioneering work in establishing that
people are predictably irrational — that they consistently behave in
ways that defy economic theory. People will refuse to pay more for an
umbrella during a rainstorm; they will use the savings from lower gas
prices to buy premium gasoline; they will offer to buy a coffee mug for
$3 and refuse to sell it for $6.

A virtual reality government game online by people that lives in their offline countries.

They are able to form a local government in which they are accountable and responsible for their decisions.

This means that they're responsible if they want to get something extra and if they lose, they have to pay something too.

This is an online virtual reality game that will consider many facts that governments are dealing with, for example the economy, health, housing, development, work, food, employment, and wildlife.

Game players will be able to deploy their projects and analysis of situations to support needs in the local neighborhoods where they live.

We will be following the advice of the president of China who said that public Servants should be receiving less wages to serve the community. But in return they will have a clear opportunity to win in projects if they are performing well. This means that bonuses and extras will be given to them when they achieve good project outcomes for the community, just in the same way that CEOs and managers are being paid by b corporations.

About the accountability, we will link with local groups that have better understanding in this matter. With whom we will disclose the projects, the persons and complete information to the community via online platforms as well as local and online radio shows.

The community will be able to sign in and vote yes or no for the decisions or Solutions, to support or deny support to the problems that the virtual government is offering.

Entry fee starts from $1,200

Fish and plastic

Fish eat plastic like teens eat fast food, researchers say

Young fish become hooked on eating plastic in the seas in the same way that teenagers prefer unhealthy fast food, Swedish researchers have said.

Their study, reported in Science, found exposure to high concentrations of polystyrene makes perch larvae favour the particles over more natural foods.

As a result of exposure to plastic, the young perch are smaller, slower and more susceptible to predators.

The researchers called for plastic micro-beads to be banned in cosmetics.

Scientists say fish may be eating ocean plastic waste

Scientists are concerned that hundreds of thousands of tons of plastic waste floating in the ocean is being eaten by fish.

An international team of experts has found evidence there is 100 times less plastic on ocean surfaces than expected.

Professor Carlos Duarte, an oceanographer from the University of Western Australia, was part of the study that towed a mesh net through the world's oceans.

Urban Wildlife issues

Black Bear Education and Enforcement Pilot
From April to November of 2012 and 2013, the city conducted the Black Bear Education and Enforcement pilot program. City staff submitted a first-year report in early 2013. In the fall of 2013, four bears that had been scavenging on trash were killed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers to protect public safety, increasing community and council attention on creating regulations to protect bears. In early 2014, staff returned to council with options for how to better secure trash from bears. The options were informed by outcomes and analysis of the two-year pilot program. A new ordinance for securing trash from bears was created in March 2014, and enforcement of the new ordinance will begin Oct. 1, 2014.

Human-caused grizzly bear mortality

Human-caused mortality is the greatest source of mortality for grizzly bears and the primary factor limiting grizzly bear populations. Research indicates that 77 to 85 per cent of radio-collared grizzlies die at the hands of humans [pdf], and between 17 and 54 per cent of human-caused mortalities go unreported. --
